Auli: Ski Resort and Getting There

Auli is a ski resort in Chamoli district. A three-kilometre stretch has an elevation difference of 500 metres and is considered very good skiing terrain by international standards. If winter sports are the focus of your stay, Auli offers a concrete option. From Joshimath, you can reach Auli by road or by cable car; you can include either option in your travel plans.

Pilgrimage Sites and Routes

Badrinath is one of India's four Char Dhams and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Hemkund Sahib is a Sikh pilgrimage centre in the district, located at over 15,000 feet above sea level. The two sites thus represent different pilgrimage traditions. If you are planning your trip around religious destinations, it is worth considering these traditions separately.

A stone-paved path leads to Hemkund over six kilometres, with an elevation gain of 1,100 metres. The route length and elevation gain are two important planning details. Hemkund is also subject to a seasonal restriction: from October to April, the site is inaccessible because of snow. Bear this in mind if Hemkund is among your planned destinations.

Rudranath Temple is a Shiva temple in Chamoli and is one of the Panch Kedars. A 20-kilometre trekking route starts in Sagar and ends in Rudranath. From the temple, you can see Nanda Devi and the snow-capped peaks of Trishul. Compared with the six-kilometre path to Hemkund, the stated route to Rudranath is considerably longer; the path to Hemkund has the additional feature of its elevation gain. These details help you distinguish between the two routes.

Flower Meadows and Mountain Scenery

The Valley of Flowers is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Chamoli district. Endemic alpine flowers cover its meadows. The area offers trekkers, botanists and nature lovers a special experience of nature. Its wildlife is also remarkable: rare and endangered animals live there, including Asian black bears, snow leopards, brown bears and blue sheep.

Nanda Devi National Park is dominated by the 7,817-metre peak of Nanda Devi and accessed through the Rishi Ganga Gorge. Together with the Valley of Flowers, the national park presents another side of Chamoli's natural attractions: here, the high peak and the gorge shape the landscape, while the valley is notable for its alpine flower meadows and wildlife.

Temples and Local Landscapes

Adbadri is home to the remains of sixteen small temples. Seven of these are older, flat-roofed temples from the late Gupta period. The main temple houses a one-metre-tall black stone statue of Vishnu. The temple remains and the individual statue offer two specific points of interest if you are interested in the site's architecture and religious history.

Gopeshwar lies at an altitude of 1,308 metres, surrounded by mountain ranges, terraced fields and small lakes. The ancient Shiva temple is the town's main attraction. Gopeshwar thus combines a specific temple attraction with a setting of mountains, fields and small lakes.

Guidance for Choosing a Hotel

Chamoli is well connected to Rishikesh by motorable roads. Badrinath is on National Highway 58, and state buses run regularly between Badrinath and Rishikesh. These details provide specific guidance on road access and bus services, without combining the different places into a single route.

If you are looking for hotels in Chamoli, first decide which destinations will shape your stay. Winter sports in Auli, pilgrimage sites and temple history represent different reasons to travel. Tailor your search to the focus of your own plans rather than treating all the attractions as one general sightseeing itinerary.
