The wider region around Fushun offers destinations with a range of highlights: a coal-mining museum, parks beside rivers and wetlands, and viewpoints overlooking the urban area. If you choose Fushun as your destination, these differences can help you decide what to focus on during your stay. The places below offer different ways to experience the landscape, urban green spaces and regional crafts.

Museum, Crafts and Mining Landscape

The Fushun Coal Mine Museum uses film, phantom projection and holographic imaging, among other techniques. The different visual methods create distinct effects, while coal mining remains the central theme. A municipal tourism list dated October 10, 2025, lists the museum as a national 3A tourist attraction. For your trip planning, it offers a cultural focus that differs from the parks’ green and riverside landscapes.

Fushun amber carving is another facet of the region’s culture. It was included in China’s national intangible cultural heritage list in 2014. This means that, alongside coal mining, the region also offers a traditional craft to explore. The two themes appeal to different interests: the technical presentation of mining on the one hand, and amber carving on the other.

Parks Between Green Spaces and Rivers

The Wetland Cultural Park in Dongzhou District covers 23.4 hectares. Of this, 7.8 hectares are paved areas and 15.6 hectares are green spaces. Its ecological garden system features numerous tree species, varied colors and different layers of vegetation. This division of the grounds makes the contrast between paved areas and green spaces a defining feature of the park.

Labor Park is in Xinfu District. It covers 32 hectares, divided into 15.9 hectares of mountain terrain, 6 hectares of water and 9.5 hectares of flat ground. Established in 1925, it is considered Fushun’s only large, comprehensive park. Its combination of mountain, water and flat terrain gives it a different character from Wetland Cultural Park, whose description emphasizes its ecological garden system and vegetation.

Shili Waterfront Park extends along both banks of the urban section of the Hun River, from Tianhu Bridge in the east to Gebu Bridge in the west. Its riverfront is about 13.8 kilometers long. The park features large lawns, small plazas, benches and fitness equipment. Its character is shaped both by its long stretch of riverfront and by the designated areas for relaxing and exercising.

Moon Island Ecological Park lies on the south bank of the Hun River, at the confluence of the Guchengzi River and the Hun River. One of its features is eleven landscape bridges. On Moon Lake in the park, the “Water Show” musical fountain combines sound, light, water, electricity, lasers, a water screen and film in an integrated art installation. The riverside setting, bridges and fountain design offer different points of interest when choosing parks for their landscape or design features.

Views Across the City

Gaoershan Park is in the northwest of Fushun’s urban area. At 230 meters, Gaoershan is the highest point within the urban area. From the summit, you can look out over Fushun, with the Hun River winding through the city. Gaoershan is also home to an octagonal, nine-tiered pagoda with closely spaced projecting eaves. Built during the Liao dynasty, it is considered an important cultural landmark in Fushun. The views, river setting and pagoda bring together the cityscape and architectural history.

The viewing platform at the West Open Pit Mine offers a different perspective on the coal-mining landscape: from there, you can see the open-pit landscape and traces of earlier coal mining. Unlike the museum, the focus here is not on visual interpretation in an exhibition, but on the landscape and the visible traces of mining.

First consider whether you want to focus your trip on museums and crafts, parks by the water, or viewpoints and mining landscapes. You can then tailor your hotel search to the interests that matter most for your stay.
