Changchun brings together art and landscape, film history, historic cultural sites, and themes of forests, lakes and winter sports. Changchun World Sculpture Park combines sculptures with designed landscapes; museums explore film and the history of Chinese education, while Jingyuetan brings together forest, lake and winter sports.

Sculptures and Landscape

Changchun World Sculpture Park is located in the central urban area and covers 92 hectares, of which 11.8 hectares are water. Natural landscapes and human-shaped cultural landscapes are part of its overall setting. Five original works by Auguste Rodin are displayed outdoors. This brings landscape design and specific works of art together in one park, with Rodin’s works serving as a clear artistic focal point.

Changchun’s Film Themes

The Changchun Old Film Museum presents the history and artistic achievements of the Changchun Film Studio. Its exhibits and activities include the preservation of objects, art exhibitions and interactive film experiences. The museum comprises a film museum, an exhibition area in a film studio and a film-printing workshop area. It also includes a cinema, a music hall and an adjacent film culture district. These components offer different ways to engage with film and film culture.

Changchun Movie Wonderland takes a different approach: it is a special-effects film theme park and a Grade 5A tourist attraction. Its focus includes technology, adventure, performances and sightseeing, with five special-effects cinemas as its main feature. The current program may vary. Unlike the Old Film Museum, it focuses on a special-effects theme park, while the museum explores the history and artistic achievements of the film studio.

Palace History and Classical Education

The Puyi Palace was the palace complex where Aisin-Gioro Puyi resided as the puppet emperor of the Manchukuo regime. It is one of three palace complexes of this kind still preserved in China. The Puyi Palace Museum is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a national model institution for patriotic education, a Grade 5A tourist attraction and a national first-class museum. The palace’s historical role and the museum’s institutional designations are two distinct aspects of this Changchun cultural theme.

The Changchun Confucius Temple Museum features exhibitions on Confucius, the Four Sages and the Twelve Philosophers, as well as on the history of Confucian temples and Chinese examination culture. Depictions of the traces of Confucius are also among the exhibition topics. The Minglun Hall and the Confucius Academy have lecture halls for academic talks and discussions on classical Chinese education. The lecture program may vary.

Jingyuetan: Forest, Lake and Winter Sports

Jingyuetan Scenic Area combines forest, lake and human-shaped landscapes. Each season offers a distinct view of the landscape. The Jingyuetan Ski Resort is located within the area: it is surrounded by forest on three sides and water on the fourth. If you plan to visit the ski resort, it is worth checking its current operating hours.

Changchun’s cross-country skiing theme also includes the China Vasaloppet Museum. It presents the origins, introduction, development and achievements of the Swedish and Changchun Vasaloppet ski races. It also explains the significance of cross-country skiing and ski culture. Together, these offer two distinct perspectives on winter sports: the ski resort’s setting in the landscape and the history of cross-country skiing at the museum.
