An 18-kilometer-long seashore, hilltop views of green land and blue water, and an island protected for migratory birds give Cox's Bazar several distinct natural attractions. Inani Beach, Himchari National Park and Sonadia Island offer different experiences. When planning your trip, you can weigh up beach features and activities, a hilly landscape with scenic views, and nature watching alongside an introduction to fish drying.

Inani Beach: Coastline and Coral Stones

The 18-kilometer-long seashore is located in Ukhia Upazila. Many coral stones have very sharp edges. Black and green coral stones can be found in summer or during the rainy season. The water at Inani Beach is considered suitable for bathing and swimming. You can also watch the sunrise from the beach. Pathorkhani is located in Jaliapalong at Inani Beach; visitors gather there to sit on the rock and take photos. If you are especially interested in the black and green coral stones, consider visiting in summer or during the rainy season.

Beach Activities in Cox's Bazar

Cox's Bazar Beach also offers opportunities for surfing, jogging and other beach activities. This is a different way to experience the coast from the natural features mentioned at Inani and the sunrise views: here, the focus is on specific activities on the beach, while there it is on the stones, Pathorkhani and the water described as suitable for bathing and swimming.

Hills and Waterfall in Himchari National Park

Himchari National Park lies mostly on hills and borders the Bay of Bengal to the west. Steps lead up a hill, from which you can look out over green hills and blue water. There is also a small waterfall in the park. The park therefore offers two clearly described natural attractions to choose from: the view from the hill and the waterfall. Together, the hilly setting and the western boundary along the bay place the landscape in context, while the steps, views and waterfall offer specific experiences for visitors.

Biodiversity and Island Nature

The Teknaf Wildlife Sanctuary in Cox's Bazar District is also known for its diverse natural environment. The sanctuary is reported to have 55 mammal species, 286 bird species, 56 reptile species, 13 amphibian species and 290 plant species; these figures may be based on an earlier survey. The five groups cover different parts of the animal and plant world.

Sonadia Island covers nine square kilometers and is a protected area for migratory birds. The groups named there include shearwaters, snipes, sandpipers, lapwings, geese and ducks; their presence may vary by season. Green sea turtles and red crabs can also be seen on the island. Interested tourists can learn about the fish-drying process there. Sonadia therefore offers two distinct interests: nature watching, with bird species that vary seasonally, and learning about fish drying. Compared with the Teknaf Wildlife Sanctuary, Sonadia Island has a different focus: migratory bird groups and marine animals are named there, while the sanctuary's figures cover five broad groups of species.
