Malabar: Highlands by Daan Viljoen Game Reserve
Accommodation in Malabar
Malabar lies in the Khomas Highlands along the C28 in the Windhoek area. The farm borders the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve to the north. If you are looking for hotels in Malabar, you can plan a stay that includes wildlife watching and hikes in the neighboring park; check the location of your accommodation and the separate entrance to the park.
Farm area along the C28
The C28 divides the farm property into roughly two halves. The southern part is less mountainous than the northern part, which borders the reserve. From various parts of Malabar, you can see the Auas Mountains and Windhoek. The farm area is not a general public hiking area; use agreed access points and respect private property.
Daan Viljoen: Highlands and wildlife
The park protects an ecosystem of the Khomas Highlands. Its vegetation includes highland shrubland with acacia species, kudu bush, and buffalo thorn. Mammals found there include springbok, kudu, eland, oryx, blue wildebeest, and Hartmann’s mountain zebra. Around 200 bird species also make the area interesting for birdwatchers. Sightings of individual species cannot be predicted.
Plan hikes to suit your stay
