Ain Leuh can be understood through two specific cultural themes: textile products from Dar Saniaa and the National Ahidous Festival. The Aïn Leuh waterfalls nearby add another point of interest. Ifrane Province provides the broader setting for further landscape and leisure features.

Textile handicrafts in Ain Leuh

A description from 2012 names Dar Saniaa in Ain Leuh as a place where Hanbel rugs, Handira, cushions, traditional woven goods, clothing and embroidered products were made. The selection ranges from home textiles to clothing and gives a concrete picture of the area’s textile focus. If you are interested in textile crafts, this variety offers a clear starting point for understanding the place.

Ahidous and the festival

The 21st edition of the National Ahidous Festival took place in Ain Leuh from 5 to 7 August 2022, with 46 groups participating in the Ahidous performances. The 25th edition was scheduled to take place in Ain Leuh from 23 to 25 July 2026. The numbering from the 21st to the 25th edition highlights the festival’s recurrence. Ahidous is also considered part of Morocco’s intangible cultural heritage.

Waterfalls nearby

The Aïn Leuh waterfalls are among the natural sites in the Ifrane area and are located nearby. Alongside the cultural themes, they provide a landscape point of interest.

Ifrane Province as the regional setting

Within the broader destination of Ifrane Province, the city of Ifrane is a distinct point of reference: it lies between Meknès and Fès in the Middle Atlas at an altitude of 1,713 metres above sea level and is the provincial centre. The Lion of Ifrane is considered one of the city’s landmarks. Regional crafts such as carpet-making, mat weaving, pottery and objects made from thuja wood are showcased in Ifrane. The Musée écologique and the Ras El Maa fish farm are among the province’s leisure and cultural facilities. A small railway is presented as a way to explore the streets of Ifrane.

The landscape also shapes the province’s profile. A tourism article from 2024 puts the forest area of Ifrane Province at 116,000 hectares, including 48,000 hectares of cedar forest, which is considered a national natural heritage. The 48,000 hectares amount to around two-fifths of the stated forest area. Several rivers, springs and internationally recognised lakes are part of the province, which is therefore considered an important water reservoir for Morocco.

Ifrane Province is considered an outstanding destination for winter tourism. The province’s tourist activities include skiing, high-ropes climbing, fishing, golf, birdwatching and hiking. On hikes in Ifrane, hikers can observe Barbary macaques and Barbary deer.
