Saint Gabriel can be explored through its cathedral and Sunday services, while nearby Cascade Victoire offers a different, more scenic perspective. On Rodrigues, you’ll find the François Leguat Reserve and Mont Limon; Sega Tambour is a traditional dance of the island.

Saint Gabriel Cathedral

On Sundays, Saint Gabriel Cathedral welcomes parishioners and visitors to services in a typically Rodriguan atmosphere. If you would like to attend a service, check the current times in advance so you can factor your visit into your travel plans.

The cathedral was built between 1936 and 1939. Parishioners brought stones, sand and coral from various parts of Rodrigues and helped with the construction.

Nearby Cascade Victoire

At Cascade Victoire, a waterfall plunges down the hillside. A stream channel runs through dense, lush forest beneath steep rock faces. The steep descent in the Cascade Victoire area is difficult to navigate, so attempting it is not recommended. As conditions may change, check access before your visit. Cascade Victoire can be reached from the hamlet of Sainte-Famille via an unpaved road.

Rodrigues: Nature and culture in a wider context

Rodrigues is 18 km long and 8 km wide. Regional natural attractions include the François Leguat Reserve in the southwest of Rodrigues. It lies in a limestone landscape with nine caves and sinkholes. The Grande Caverne in the reserve features impressive limestone formations. Rodrigues offers nature lovers several perspectives: limestone, caves and sinkholes shape the landscape at the François Leguat Reserve, while the Grande Caverne reveals further limestone formations. At Mont Limon, the views take in the geological relief, agricultural terraces and the ocean. The ten marine reserves add marine conservation to the island’s natural attractions. This lets you give considered priority to your interests in geology, landscapes and marine nature when planning your trip.

Guided tours take visitors through a valley with hundreds of giant tortoises, tropical birds and tens of thousands of native trees. The museum offers a different perspective: its four galleries give visitors insight into the natural history of Rodrigues.

From Mont Limon, you can enjoy views of the geological relief of Rodrigues, agricultural terraces and the ocean. The region is also home to ten marine reserves.

There is more to the culture than Saint Gabriel. Sega Tambour is a traditional dance from Rodrigues and was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2017.
