Two specific topics are at the forefront of a trip to Naro Moru: the Naro Moru Route up Mount Kenya and private stables in town where horses can be rented. Cultural sites in the wider travel destination of Nyeri District are a separate area of interest.

Mount Kenya routes and how to get there

The Mountain Club of Kenya lists the Naro Moru Route as one of the most popular routes on Mount Kenya. For people who are not accustomed to high altitudes, it recommends hiking from Park Gate to Met Station on the first day rather than driving this section of the ascent. Follow the latest park guidance when planning your trip.

A well-signposted, mostly paved road leads 17 km from Naro Moru to the park entrance at an elevation of 2,400 m. Road conditions can change; check the road conditions before setting out. The road information concerns the approach, while the recommendation concerns the first day of hiking on the route.

Renting horses in Naro Moru

There are private stables in Naro Moru where horses can be rented. If you would like to rent horses, check before your trip whether they will be available at that time. This allows you to consider horse rental as a separate part of your planning, distinct from information about the route and the road to the park entrance.

Cultural sites in the wider Nyeri District

In the wider travel destination of Nyeri District, a historic garden includes St. Peters Cemetery. The grounds cover about two acres, with nearly half the area taken up by the cemetery. Robert Baden-Powell is buried at St. Peters Cemetery in Nyeri County; his wife Olave Baden-Powell's ashes are interred there. Stones bearing the values and promises of the Scouts and Girl Guides line the path to Baden-Powell's grave. The garden, cemetery, and inscriptions are part of Nyeri District's cultural heritage.

Paxtu at Outspan Hotel was built as Robert Baden-Powell's cottage in 1937–38. Room 45 at Outspan Hotel is part of Paxtu and was his bedroom. A 2018 description records that the living room and other rooms in the cottage had by then been converted into a museum, displaying materials about Baden-Powell as well as donations from Scouts and Guides. A report from the same year records annual visits from Scouts and Guides from around the world, especially on February 22 for Founder's Day.

The Memorial Church in Nyeri District is also part of this historical area of interest. It was built in 1952 in memory of Italians who died as prisoners of war. Paxtu was built earlier than the Memorial Church.
